Introduction
Our school strongly believes that every student has the right to a conducive teaching and learning environment where they can challenge themselves to build their dreams.
Students learn well when there is order and discipline. The school’s approach towards discipline is for every student to be able to lead oneself through a sense of commitment, the practice of self-discipline and personal responsibility. In doing so, each student actively contributes to the overall well-being of all staff and students in the school by understanding the needs of others.
Approach
Our school adopts a positive and proactive approach to instill self-discipline and good character in our students. The school uses positive discipline to educate our students on behaviours that are acceptable, and those that are not, in a way that is firm yet kind. Disciplinary measures are meted out fairly, firmly, and appropriately to help students understand that their actions have consequences. The positive and proactive approach is outlined below.
Our school adopts a structured and educative approach to managing disciplinary cases to ensure that discipline is both fair and purposeful, oriented towards long-term well-being and character development of every student.
Each disciplinary case will be investigated promptly. During the process, the school will ensure the immediate physical and psychological safety of students involved. We will adopt a consistent framework for classifying and managing the offences while retaining professional judgement to determine the educative and disciplinary measures that are appropriate and proportionate to the nature and severity of the offence. Mitigating and aggravating circumstances are also carefully considered. Where relevant and required, established protocols will be followed, including referrals to external agencies or authorities. Timely and appropriate emotional and safety support will also be provided. Parents will be informed and given timely updates, subject to the complexity of the case.
Discipline cases affect the students involved as well as the peers, staff and the broader school community. To help the students reflect and learn, they will be guided to identify the thinking or circumstances that led to the offence. This may involve counselling, mentoring, structured reflection exercises, or targeted programmes aimed at building social and emotional competencies for sustainable behavioural changes. Restorative processes, where appropriate, may be facilitated to help students make amends, rebuild relationships, and reintegrate positively into the community. Follow-up support will be provided to monitor the student’s progress.
The school is committed to maintaining a safe and disciplined environment for all members of our school community.
As part of this commitment, the school may conduct searches of student belongings (e.g., bags, folders, files, uniform pockets, digital devices) where there is reasonable cause to believe an offence may have been committed or prohibited or dangerous items are present. Searches of student belongings may also be carried out on a random basis as a general safety measure, and to help maintain a safe and disciplined environment.
The school will confiscate items which are prohibited, dangerous, and/or suspected of containing evidence of an offence/crime. If such items are found, parents/guardians will be informed, and the items may also be turned over to the relevant authorities.
